Bear Creek Lake State Park offers 50 single-family campsites (12 tent only) and 12 cabins set on the shores of Bear Creek Lake within the Cumberland State Forest.  There is also group camping, bunkhouse and lodge rooms available.

The campsites are arranged in 3 loops – Acorn (A sites), Black Oak (B Sites) and Chestnut (C Sites). There is also cabin loop, and a bunkhouse / group site loop.  Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RV. Most of the campsites have electric hookups.  Each site also has a parking spur, table, fire ring and grill. Parking spurs range ion length from 20 feet to 35 feet (although most are 20 feet long).

The campground is open year round. Amenities include potable (drinking) water, flush toilets, hot-water showers, trash collection (dumpsters), an RV dump station and playground.  There is also a boat ramp and gift shop at the park.

Bear Creek Lake State Park – Area Recreation & Activities

Bear Creek Lake State Park’s 326-acres offers a variety of outdoor recreation activities including boating, fishing, swimming and other water sports. Visitors can also enjoy hiking, biking, archery, picnicking and wildlife viewing.

And just a short 36 mile drive to the north/east is Powhatan State Park. There’s a delightful little campground there was 29 campsites along the James River.

    One of my favorite Virginia State campgrounds.
    Beautiful lake with canoeing, swimming and fishing.

    I wish they would increase the size/number of campsites because there are only a few sites that will handle large rigs.
