Chippokes Plantation State Park Overview
Chippokes Plantation State Park campground has 58 single-family campsites and is located next to the James River & Cobham Bay. The campground is a short walk or bike ride to the shoreline and beach.
There are 50 sites with electric & water hookups. The campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 30 feet). Four cabins are also available fo rent. Group camping is also available.
Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot showers and a dump station. Firewood is available for sale from the camp host. Each site also has a table, fire ring and grate.
Chippokes Plantation State Park – Area Recreation & Info
Chippokes Plantation is a living historical exhibit (one of the oldest working farms in the U.S.) located in a rural agricultural area along the James River in Surry County. The park has a visitor center, swimming complex, snacks bar, gift shop, visitor center, picnic area, playground, horse trails, hiking and biking trails.
The plantation has kept its original boundaries since the 1600s and has a variety of cultivated gardens and native woodland. . The plantation grounds are also home to the Chippokes Farm and Forestry Museum.
Chickahominy Riverfront Park Campground is located across James River – about a 50 minute drive.

I just spoke with Debbie at Chippokes State Park to make a reservation. She told me she couldn’t make the reservation over the phone. I asked if that meant I would have to come to the Park to make my reservation. Reply, “yes, mam.” I am now waiting on a return call from the Park Manager.
