Hiawatha National Forest Michigan
Hiawatha National Forest Overview
Hiawatha National Forest covers nearly 900,000 acres across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The forest stretches from Lake Superior to Lake Michigan and includes a diverse landscape of hardwood forests, wetlands, rivers, inland lakes, and rugged shorelines. It is an excellent destination for camping, hiking, fishing, boating, wildlife viewing, and other outdoor activities.
The forest is divided into eastern and western sections and surrounds several communities in the Upper Peninsula. Its location between three Great Lakes gives Hiawatha a strong connection to the water. Visitors can explore scenic beaches, islands, bays, lighthouses, waterfalls, and forest roads throughout the area.
Developed campgrounds range from small, quiet facilities to larger campgrounds near popular lakes and recreation areas. Several campgrounds provide convenient access to boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, and scenic waterfront areas.
