North Umpqua Wild and Scenic River Oregon

North Umpqua Wild and Scenic River Overview

The North Umpqua Wild and Scenic River is a spectacular 34-mile river corridor in southwestern Oregon, known for its clear emerald-green water, old-growth forests, rugged volcanic scenery, excellent fishing, and whitewater recreation.

The river flows through a scenic mountain landscape east of Roseburg along Highway 138, which is part of the Rogue-Umpqua National Scenic Byway. The corridor features forested slopes, mountain meadows, basalt cliffs, rock formations, and numerous waterfalls. The combination of the river and surrounding Cascade scenery makes this an excellent destination for sightseeing, photography, hiking, fishing, camping, and river recreation.

Camping is available at several developed campgrounds in and around the North Umpqua corridor. Susan Creek Campground is one of the primary BLM camping areas. It has 29 individual campsites, with 15 available for reservations during part of the year. The campground typically operate from late April through late October.

Other campgrounds along the river provide additional access to fishing, hiking, boating, and scenic areas. Camping options range from developed campground sites to dispersed camping opportunities on surrounding public lands.
