Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Nevada

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Overview

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is one of Nevada’s most spectacular natural landscapes, located about 17 miles west of Las Vegas in the eastern edge of the Mojave Desert. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management, the conservation area encompasses nearly 200,000 acres of colorful sandstone cliffs, rugged mountains, desert valleys, and scenic canyons.

The area is best known for its dramatic red and cream-colored sandstone formations, created millions of years ago by geologic uplift and faulting. Towering cliffs, including the famous Keystone Thrust, rise thousands of feet above the desert floor, creating a stunning backdrop for outdoor recreation and photography.
