Carter Meadows Horse Group Campground Klamath National Forest California
Carter Meadows Horse Group Overview
The Carter Meadows Horse Group Campground is a large group campground for riders and hikers. The campground is nice and spread out. It can accommodate up to 25 people and 25 horses with available hitch posts and corrals of different sizes. In addition, the campground allows other pets as well as trailers and a maximum amount of 10 vehicles. It also has a gravel parking area, a gated entrance, a hitch rack and a mounting ramp. Also, there is a good amount of shade but no cell service. The site is available by reservation only.
The campground is located in the southern region of the Klamath National Forest. It is also near the South Fork of the Salmon River. The Klamath National Forest offers plenty to do and see. Many mountains of different sizes with elevations ranging from 450ft to 8,900ft make up this forest. In addition, there are plenty of streams and lakes as well as an abundance of plant and animal species. Amenities include picnic tables, fire pits, BBQs, tent pads, as well as drinking water and vault toilets. The closest, most convenient dump station is most likely to be Etna RV Park (28mi north). Also, Trinity Alps RV Park (78mi south) and Yreka area RV parks (57mi north) have dump stations too.
The campground requires weed-free feed for horses and recommends you bring your own hoses and watering buckets. The campground does not allow grazing near or adjacent to the site. Stock must be held in the corrals or parking area. You must also clean the corrals before leaving the campground. Also, hikers and horsemen heading into the Trinity Alps Wilderness for overnight trips will need a wilderness permit.
