Deadman Campground Stanislaus National Forest California

Deadman Overview

Deadman Campground has 17 first-come first-served campsites on a forested area along the banks of the Stanislaus River and one mile from Highway 108. Two of the sites are walk-to (tent only) and the rest can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs.

The seasonal campground is usually open mid April to early October. Amenities include potable (drinking) water, vault toilets and trash collection. Campground roads are paved and parking spurs are gravel. Each site also has a parking spur, table, fire ring and grill. Cell service is not available in the area.

Deadman Campground – Area Recreation & Activities

Fishing is one of the primary attractions. The campground sits directly along the Stanislaus River, providing easy access for anglers seeking trout. Hiking is another major draw, with the Kennedy Meadows Trailhead nearby providing access into the surrounding Sierra Nevada and the Emigrant Wilderness.

The campground is also a convenient base for exploring the Sonora Pass corridor. The Pacific Crest Trail crosses Highway 108 near Sonora Pass, while scenic drives lead farther into the high country toward Sonora Pass and Leavitt Meadow.

You might also like Baker Campground (less than a mile away).
