Gerle Creek Overview

Gerle Creek is a great 50 site campground in the El Dorado National Forest. Large hardwood trees surround the area. Also, the campground sits upstream from the Gerle Creek Divide Reservoir. This campground offers single and double-family sites. The campground also has both first come first serve and reservable sites. The single family sites can accommodate up to 6 guests and 1 vehicle. However, the double family sites can have up to 12 guests and 2 vehicles. Most sites can accommodate 1 extra vehicle but will have to pay an extra fee. The campground allows for RVs, trailers, as well as tent camping. For sites that allow for RVs and trailers, the max length they can accommodate is 50ft.

The campground is pet friendly and offers tons of shade for. There is no cell service. Gerle Creek is open from May 22nd until September 6th. However, from September 7th until the 20th, sites are available on a first come first serve basis.

Amenities at the Gerle Creek Campground include picnic tables, campfire rings, vault toilets, as well as drinking water. Also, there are grills, food lockers, a camp host, and firewood available for purchase. An accessible fishing dock is also available. The closest dump station is at the Loon Lake Boat Ramp (8.5mi east).

Gerle Creek – Area & Recreation

There are lots of fun things to do at Gerle Creek and in the area. Some of the more popular activities consist of water sports such as swimming and canoeing. Fishing and kayaking are also popular. Common fish species include brown and rainbow trout. Guests also like to go hiking and biking on the Gerle Creek Trail which provides scenic views. Bears frequent the area so you must be careful with your food storage.

Also, the Union Valley Reservoir is close by. In addition, Loon Lake is close too. These places provide more opportunities for water sports and recreation. For a day trip, Lake Tahoe is about 2hrs away.

Other nearby campgrounds that you might like are South Fork, Loon Lake, Wolf Creek, as well as French Meadows.
