Lookout Overview

Lookout campground has 18 campsites set in a forested area of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest at an elevation of 6,770 feet. Out of the 18 sites, 1 of them is a large group site and 2 are double sites. The single family sites can have up to 6 guests as well as 2 vehicles. The double sites can have up to 10 guests and 4 vehicles. The large group site can have up to 100 guests and 30 vehicles. Lookout Campground allows for RV, trailer, as well as tent camping. The max vehicle length at each site ranges from 15ft-30ft.

Aspen, pine, as well as fir trees provide tons of shade for the sites. There is also good cell coverage here. Pets can come too. Good site spacing gives you plenty of privacy. This campground is open from the end of June until the end of September.

Amenities at Lookout Campground include picnic tables, fire rings, grills, as well as tent pads. Also, there are vault toilets, trash service, and a camp host. Non-potable water is available. The closest dump stations are Verdi Executive RV & Boat Storage (39mi southeast), Gold Ranch RV Resort (39mi southeast), and Keystone RV Park (29mi east).

Getting to the campground can be tricky. Bridge Street has 2, 1-lane bridges with a maximum allowable height of 13ft. Also, Dog Valley Road can be rough and often develops washboards. 2-wheel drive vehicles can navigate the road. However, low clearance vehicles might have a hard time.

Lookout – Area & Recreation

Lookout Campground offers plenty to do. Popular activities to do in the area are wildlife viewing, hiking, mountain biking, as well as hunting. There are also many places to ride off-highway vehicles. In addition, the campground is next to Crystal Peak which you can reach by vehicle or a short hike. The American Discovery Trail also runs through this area. Dog Valley and Peavine Mountain are popular off-highway vehicle and mountain biking areas.

Day trips are also possible. Reno is about 1 hr away. Lake Tahoe is just less than 2hrs away.

Other campgrounds you might like are Zephyr Cove and RV Village.
