South Shore Campground Eldorado National Forest California

South Shore Overview

South Shore Campground has 22 campsites and is located near the Lower Bear River Reservoir in the Eldorado National Forest.

The campground is generally open early June to mid-September. Amenities include drinking water (piped), vault toilets and trash collection. Firewood is also available to purchase from the camp host. Cell service is not available in the area.

Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Two are double/family campsites (1, 11 and 16). Others have steps from the parking spur to the camping area. One campsite is ADA.

Sites best for tents are 2, 4, 5, 10-13, 18, 20-22. Sites best for tents, trailers and RVs are 1, 6, 7, 9, 14, 16 and 17.  Campsites 8 and 15 are ‘walk-to’. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grill. Showers and a dump station are located over at the Bear River Resort.

Other campgrounds in the area include Pardoes Point, Bear River Group and Sugar Pine Point.

South Shore Campground – Area Recreation & Activities

Outdoor recreation in the area includes boating (no motors), fishing, canoeing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, picnicking and wildlife viewing.

Bear River Resort is also nearby (1 mile) and has a store, restaurant, boat launch, boat rentals, dump station and showers.

Mokelumne River Campground is also about 11 miles away. You might also like Middle Fork Cosumnes Campground.
