Wild Horse Equestrian Family Overview

Wild Horse Equestrian Family Campground has 11 equestrian only campsites in the San Bernardino National Forest. There are 8 single-family sites as well as 3 double-family campsites. The single-family sites can have up to 8 guests and 2 vehicles. The double-family sites can have up to 16 guests and 4 vehicles. The max vehicle length at the sites ranges from 25ft-30ft. Wild Horse Equestrian Family Campground allows for RV, trailer, and tent camping. However, campers must have a horse or horses with them in order to use the campground. Also, many pine trees provide plenty of shade for the sites and campground. In addition, there is some cell service. This campground is pet friendly. Wild Horse Equestrian Family is open from early May until early October.

Amenities at Wild Horse Equestrian Family Campground include picnic tables, campfires rings, as well as grills. Also, flush toilets, showers, and drinking water are available. For the horses, there are at least 24 single-horse stalls, a horse watering station, staging area, as well as hitching racks. The closest dump station options are Heart Bar Campground dump station (0.5mi north) and Barton Flats Recreation Area (6mi west).

The campground is situated high in the mountains, at an elevation of about 7,000 feet. Surrounding terrain is rocky and steep, but appropriate for both the beginner and intermediate rider. Some of the more popular things to do here and in the surrounding area are hiking, biking, as well as horseback riding. The Santa Ana River Trail provides miles of scenic mountain views and points of exploration. Other trailheads that begin near the campground include Fish Creek Meadow, Mission Creek, Dry Lake, and South Fork. Fishing is also available in the nearby mountain streams.

Big Bear Lake and Town are about 20 miles from the campground. A variety of water recreation opportunities, as well as golf, shopping and restaurant options are available here. During the winter, snow sports are very popular here as well.
