Horsethief Reservoir Campground Idaho

Horsethief Reservoir Overview

Horsethief Reservoir Campground surrounds the 260-acre reservoir and has over 100 first-come first-served campsites. Many sites have views of the water, as well as pine covered hills and distant granite-capped mountains.

Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 30 feet). Each site has a parking spur, table, fire ring and grill.

The campground is open year-round and has several camping/loop areas including Osprey Bay, Easter’s Cove, Timber Bay, Kings Point, Bear Knob and the East Side loops.  Amenities include potable (drinking) water, vault toilets and trash collection (dumpsters). Firewood is also available to purchase from the camp host.  ecent campground improvements have upgraded many of the camping loops with paved roads, gravel parking pads, improved boat launch areas, and updated campsite amenities while still maintaining the rustic feel that visitors appreciate.

Horsethief Reservoir – Area Recreation & Activities

Fishing is one of the campground’s biggest draws. The reservoir is managed as a trout fishery and is regularly stocked, making it popular for shore fishing, float tubes, kayaks, and small fishing boats. The lake maintains a no-wake policy, helping preserve its calm, peaceful environment. Visitors also enjoy soaking in nearby hot springs, hiking, mountain biking, OHV trail riding, wildlife viewing, paddle sports, photography, and evening campfires beneath Idaho’s dark mountain skies.

Wellington and Brush Creek are two other campgrounds in Valley County, Idaho.
