Frontenac State Park Overview
Frontenac State Park campground is open year-round and has 58 single-family campsites and is located on a bluff above the Mississippi River. Most of the campsites are in wooded areas and are fairly close together. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (some up to 50 feet). There are 19 campsites with electric hookups. All campsites have a table, fire ring and grate. Group camping and backpack (walk-in) campsites are also available.
Campground amenities include drinking water, hot showers, flush and vault toilets. A dump station is also available at the campground. Water, hot showers and the dump station are not available during winter months (November 1 through April). Snowshoe rentals and firewood are also available at the Park office.
You may also be interested in Willow River State Park. Prairie Island Campground (Winona) is also nice.
Frontenac State Park – Area Recreation
Frontenac State Park is famous for its spectacular views of the Mississippi River, as well as amazing fall colors. It’s also a popular area for birdwatching, hiking, horseback riding mountain biking and wildlife viewing. Nearby Lake Pepin also offers some nice boating, fishing, swimming and other water sports.

Do you have sites for a40 foot trailor?
Hi Rob,
Yes, there are a few campsites that can accommodate trailers up to 40 feet at Frontenac State Park. We advised calling the ranger station directly on which sites will work for your trailer: 651-345-3401
This is a great website telling about Frontenac State Park, but since we are a bluff side State Park there is no place to go swimming or have water sports. We do have canoeing and other non motorized boating in the small Pleasant Valley Lakelet though that joins the State Park land.
Thanks for your kind words and additional info on Frontenac State Park. We will make sure that the ‘swimming, canoeing and water sports’ do not pertain to the Park, but to nearby Lake Pepin.
Beautiful park, lots of variety in scenery esp in the fall. Got a good hike in on the bluff side and a more mellow one through the grassy areas. Beautiful any season but particularly when there is color to see.
I can’t find a campground map to see site locations? Or even site details. Like length, shade, level ? What am I doing wrong?

You can click on the ‘Campground Map’ button to see Frontenac State Park’s Campground Map. Also, you can click on the ‘Make A Reservation’ button and be directed to the reservation site. From there, enter ‘Frontenanc State Park’ to view availability of campsites, site dimensions, pricing and make a reservation.
I am planning a trip with a few friends, however we are unsure if there is a limit on tents per plot. We plan on two tents, but don’t not see any restrictions on this, is it by how many tents can fit in the Tent Pad? Would be grateful for any info.

Yes, you can have two tents per campsite, as long as both fit within your campsite boundaries. Have a great time!
This park is so great! But, a caveat: don’t bother with the backpacking sites. They are close to a busy trail, and directly across a lake from a busy highway and active railroad with a station nearby that causes conductors to sound their horns repeatedly each time they pass. To make matters worse, the lake separating the backpacking sites from the highway/railroad creates a sonic channel that delivers the noise directly to your campsite. Go for the cart-in sites instead! You can still backpack to them, plus they’re super private and quiet and beautiful. Also, if you do wind up booking a backpacking site, be aware that there are bundles of wood at the sites for you! Don’t haul a bundle in (learned this the hard/moderately painful way). Great park, great hiking, beautiful flora and fauna, friendly ranger — just head for the cart-in sites or the main campground, if yer campin’!
We are camping at a cart in site this weekend. Is there a water spigot near the cart in sties, or do you need to pack in/cart in water? I’m not seeing one on the campground map.
Hi there! We have a reservation for a week from now and while there will only be three people at one site, we are not family members and are not comfortable sharing tents during COVID. So long as three small tents fit at our site, is it ok to have three?

That should be fine. The final call comes from the camp host, but you shouldn’t have a problem.
Hi, I’m looking to go tent camping with my son in late October or November and I was wondering what are the campsites that will have Electricity year around? Mainly for light and small electronics? Thanks.

There are several campsites that have electric hookups for trailers/RVs – and these are open year round. The “cart-in” and “backpack” tent campsites do not have electricity. You can click on the “Make A Reservation” button to check availability, pricing, which sites have electric and make a reservation. Have fun!
Oh great, so, all electric sites have electricity year-round? I read on the website that only 5 campsites have electricity year-round. Maybe outdated?
