Barnes Field Campground White Mountain National Forest New Hampshire

Barnes Field Overview

Barnes Field campground has 11 spacious group campsites set in a forested area and about 1/4 mile from the Peabody River in White Mountain National Forest. This historic campground is surrounded by towering hardwoods and evergreens, with the Peabody River and Culhane Brook flowing nearby.

Originally established on farmland in the early 1900s, Barnes Field is designed primarily for large families, youth organizations, and other group gatherings.

Campsites are reservable from mid May to mid October. The sites are first-come first-served other times of the year. Sites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (20 to 40 feet). Cell service is poor in the area. Each site also has a parking area, table, fire ring and grill.

Amenities include potable (drinking) water during the summer, vault toilets and trash collection. Hookups are not available.

Barnes Field Campground – Area Recreation & Activities

Outdoor recreation in the area includes hiking in the Presidential and Carter-Moriah mountain ranges. Hikers can also access the Great Gulf Wilderness trails. Other activities include trout fishing in the Peabody River and Culhane Brook, mountain biking, picnicking, rocking climbing and wildlife viewing. Visitors can also enjoy snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice climbing in the winter.

Dolly Copp campground is also nearby.
