Robert Moses State Park (Thousand Islands) New York

Robert Moses State Park (Thousand Islands) Overview

Robert Moses State Park is located right on the shores of the St. Lawrence River along the US-Canada border in upstate New York.

The waterfront park extends across portions of the mainland and Barnhart Island. Its extensive recreational facilities include a marina and boat launch, swimming beach, picnic areas, hiking trails, tennis courts, playgrounds, and a year-round nature center. The park’s trails travel through forests, fields, and wetlands, providing opportunities for hiking, biking, bird watching, wildlife viewing, and cross-country skiing.

Robert Moses State Park – Camping & Lodging

The seasonal campground is usually open mid May to mid October. There are 222 campsites (about 112 with electric hookups) and 15 two-bedroom cabins. The sites with electric hookups are 1 to 57 and 170 to 225.

The campground is divided into several camping areas, including the Long Sault and Barnhart areas. Some campsites offer 30-amp electrical service, while other sites are more basic and do not have electric hookups. Campsites generally accommodate up to six people, and some sites can accommodate larger RVs. Campsites are suitable for tents, trailers and RVs. Each site has a parking spur, table, fire ring and grill.

Cabins provide another option for visitors who want to stay in the park without bringing camping equipment. The park has 15 two-bedroom cabins. Cabin campers should bring their own bedding, bath linens, and kitchen utensils.

Campground amenities include potable (drinking) water, flush toilets, hot-water showers, trash collection (dumpsters) and an RV dump station (with water fill-up). The park also has a visitor center (Seaway Visitor Center), camps store, marina, boat ramp, boat trailer lot, watercraft rentals, playgrounds, picnic/day-use areas, a swim beach and various sports courts/fields. Cell service is pretty good in the area.

Robert Moses State Park – Outdoor Recreation & Activities

Outdoor recreation includes boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, swimming, water sports, hiking, biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing.  Winter activities include cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Robert Moses State Park is also conveniently located near several interesting attractions. The Eisenhower Lock and St. Lawrence Seaway are close to the park and offer an opportunity to watch large vessels navigating the waterway. Massena and surrounding communities provide restaurants, grocery stores, fuel, and other services within a short drive.

The Thousand Islands region is approximately an hour and a half from the park and makes an excellent day-trip destination. Visitors can explore scenic islands, waterways, historic sites, and waterfront communities throughout the region.

You might also like Meacham Lake Campground (about 55 miles to the south).
