Fish Creek (OR) Campground Mt. Hood National Forest Oregon

As of June 22, 2026, Fish Creek Campground remains closed due to extensive damage from the 2020 Riverside Fire, with no official reopening date announced.

Fish Creek (OR) Overview

Fish Creek campground has 23 campsites in a forested area alongside the Clackamas Wild and Scenic River in Mt. Hood National Forest.

Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Narrow roads within the campground make for tricky navigation for larger RVs. Each site can have up to 6 guests and between 1-2 vehicles. Each site also has a parking spur, table, tent pad, fire ring and grill. Some sites also have yurts. Pets are okay in the campground (on leash), but not allowed in the yurts.

Fish Creek campground is seasonal and usually open mid May to late October. Amenities include potable (drinking) water, vault toilets and trash collection (dumpsters). Cell service is poor in the area. A boat ramp is also next to the campground. Some close by RV dump stations include Estacada Portal Rest Area (16mi northwest), Camp Creek Campground (48mi northeast), Milo McIver State Park (18mi northwest), and Clackamette RV Park (33mi northwest).

Fish Creek – Area & Recreation

Fish Creek sits along a scenic bend just above the river. A variety of bushes, ferns, and grasses cover the forest floor around the campground. The Clackamas River provides miles of wild water as it bends through the scenic Cascade Mountain Range. Some popular activities to do here are hiking, whitewater rafting and kayaking, as well as fishing. There is also biking, boating, and wildlife viewing. Anglers can expect to find winter steelhead as well as spring chinook and late summer coho salmon. There are many other species of freshwater fish too. A hiking trail follows the river north and south and begins within the campground.

Scenic driving is available on the West Cascades Scenic Byway, which follows the river. Also, the campground is about 1hr away from the majestic Mt. Hood, Oregon’s tallest point.

Other campgrounds you might like are Carter Bridge, Lockaby, Sunstrip, Promontory Park, Ripplebrook, Armstrong, as well as Green Canyon.
