Frissell Crossing Campground Willamette National Forest Oregon

Frissell Crossing Overview

Frissell Crossing campground has 11 campsites in a forested area next to the South Fork of the McKenzie River in the Willamette National Forest.  Douglas fir, rhododendrons, and vine maple provide plenty of shade.  Some of the sites provide riverfront access. Ten of the sites are for single-families and there is also one double family site available.

Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site has a parking spur (ranging in length from 20 to 50 feet), table, fire ring and grill. Hookups are not available. Pets are okay.

The campground is seasonal and usually open late April to early September. Amenities include potable (drinking) water, vault toilets and trash collection (dumpsters). Cell service is not available. Some close by RV dump stations include Hoodoo’s Patio RV Park (25mi north), MWMC Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant (73mi west), and The RV Store Inc. (62mi west).

Frissell Crossing – Area & Recreation

Frissell Crossing is a beautiful and quiet campground. The Civilian Conservation Corps did a great job constructing this campground in 1934. It is well away from the main road and some of the sites are around an open meadow. It lies in the Willamette National Forest which stretches for 110 miles along the western slopes of the Cascade Range. The landscape varies between high mountains, narrow canyons, and cascading streams.

Some popular activities to do here and in the surrounding area are hiking, biking, as well as fishing. Also, there is swimming, nature and wildlife viewing, whitewater kayaking and rafting, as well as canoeing and visiting hot springs. Some places and attractions to visit include the Three Sisters Wilderness Area, Box Canyon Trail, and Mink Lake Basin Trail. In addition, there is the Terwilliger Hot Springs and Cougar Lake Reservoir.

Other campgrounds you might like are Roaring River Group, Kiahanie, Red Diamond Group, Hard Rock Group, French Pete, Blair Lake, as well as Cultus Lake.
