Spinreel Campground Campground Siuslaw National Forest Oregon

Spinreel Campground Overview

Spinreel 025

Spinreel Campground is located along Tenmile Creek, has 37 campsites, and offers a great basecamp for off-road vehicle riding at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.

The campground has drinking water, flush toilets, a picnic area and boat ramp (small boats) for entering Tenmile Creek.   Most sites are nice sized and can accommodate rights from 37 to 47 feet. Each campsite also has a table, fire ring and grate. Our favorite campsites are: 16, 25, 35 and 36. Firewood is also available from the camp host. Cell service is good.

Spinreel Area Recreation

Since the campground is right in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, you’ll have easy access to the dunes and many OHV trails. Other outdoor recreation includes boating, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing, hiking, biking and picnicking. There’s also some nice wildlife viewing here.

And since you’re in the area, Umpqua Lighthouse State Park is another nice place to visit and camp. It’s about 14 miles north off Highway 101. Other Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area campgrounds include Bluebill, Lagoon, Tahkenitch and Waxmyrtle.

  2. W. Stan Carlson says:

I was fishing Tenmile Creek on Thursday, January 30,2020 when a couple of fellows driving a red Jeep parked their rig in the campground parking lot and came to the creek to fish. They were just above me on the creek, and I have never heard such foul language from two persons talking loudly to each other, before. I would guess the by the way they were speaking and acting, that they were somewhat inebriated. Soon, the camp host, I believe his name is Richard, came to me and asked if the red Jeep was mine. I pointed out the two fellows above me and told him it was theirs. He made his way up the trail, and I heard him explain that they could not park in the campground, but they were welcome to fish if they used the day-use parking lot. They unleashed a barrage of foul language on him, calling him every name in the book, ending by telling him to “f— off”. He simply turned around, advising them that he would be calling the sheriff. After a few minutes, the two must have thought better and returned to their vehicle. I could hear them still confronting the camp host, with all their foul language, before getting in their vehicle and squealing their tires out of the campground.
I want to commend the camp host for keeping his cool, for not engaging them in any sort of argument or confrontation. He was very patient with them through an enormous amount of abuse they were slinging at him. He acted very professionally through the entire ordeal. Made me to think that I, or anyone else using this campground would be safe and well cared for. Thank you.
