Walton Lake Overview
Walton Lake Campground has 32 campsites set among old growth ponderosa pines and next to the scenic lake. Two group sites are also available.
Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs.Larger trailers and RVs work best on the South side and car/tent-camping are best for the smaller sites on the North side. Each site also has a paved parking spur, table, fire ring and grill. Hookups are not available. The two group sites can accommodate up to 35 people and 6 vehicles (up to 70 feet).
The campground is open late May to early October. Amenities include potable (drinking) water, vault toilets, trash collection (dumpsters), a picnic area, fishing dock, boat ramp and boat trailer lot. Firewood is also available to purchase from the camp host. Cell service is not available in the area.
Walton Lake Campground – Area Recreation & Activities
Outdoor recreation in the area includes boating, kayaking, paddle-boarding, fishing, swimming, hiking, hunting, picnicking, stargazing and mountain biking. The 7.5-mile multi-use Round Mountain Trail as well as the 1-mile Walton Lake Trail offer many scenic views around the lake.
Aspen and tall willows add habitat diversity to make this place especially attractive to wildlife. This is a place to find white-headed woodpecker, belted kingfisher, spotted sandpiper, cinnamon teal, American coot, Steller’s jay, yellow-headed blackbird and Brewer’s blackbird.
If you’re up there in the winter you might want to check out Walton Sno-Park. The area has the greatest concentration of snowmobile trails on the Ochoco National Forest can be accessed from the upper parking lot.
Other developed campgrounds include Ochoco Forest Camp and Ochoco Divide Group Site.
