Canyonlands National Park Needles District Overview

Canyonlands National Park Needles District Campground (formerly known as Squaw Flat), has 27 single-family campsites and is located in a spectacular red rock canyon area within the southern portion of the Park. Three group campsites are also available in the Needles District area.

The campground has 2 loops – loop A (1-17) and loop B (18-27). Loop B campsites are reservable mid March through mid November and first-come, first-serve other times of the year. Loop A campsites are first-come, first-serve all year. Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs (up to 28 feet).  Some sites have multiple tent pads. Five sites are tent only. Campsites 5 and 6 are ADA.

Campground amenities include drinking/potable water (seasonal), flush and vault toilets and trash collection. There’s also a campfire center set on top of a rock with spectacular views.  Camp hosts are on site, but firewood is not available to purchase at the campground or visitor center. Cell service is also not available.  Each campsite also has a paved parking spur, table, tent pads, fire ring and grill.

Willow Flat campground is also over at Island in the Sky (Canyonlands National Park).

Canyonlands National Park Needles District – Area Recreation

Outdoor recreation in the area includes backpacking hiking, rock climbing, canyoneering, mountain biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing. Stargazing is also fantastic!

You may also like other campgrounds in the general area including Superbowl, Creek Pasture, Hamburger Rock, Kens Lake, Windwhistle and Devils Canyon.
