Big Bend (WV) Campground Monongahela National Forest West Virginia

Big Bend (WV) Overview

Big Bend Campground (WV) has 46 campsites and is located in beautiful Smoke Hole Canyon next to the South Branch of the Potomac River. The campground is in the northern portion of the Monongahela National Forest, boasting beautiful old growth trees that become vibrant with color in fall.

Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site has a parking spur, table, fire ring and grill. All of the 46 sites are reservable. Jess Judy Group Campground (within 2 miles) also has 3 group sites (up to 40 people per site).

The campground is generally open mid April to late October. Amenities include potable (drinking) water, vault toilets, flush toilets, hot-water showers, trash collection and a dump station. Firewood is also available to purchase from the friendly camp host. Cell service is not available in the area.

Big Bend Campground (WV) – Area Recreation & Activities

The river is located 200 feet from campground and is open for fishing and non-motorized boat use.  A one mile loop trail is available for hiking at the campground and 60 miles of backcountry trails are located close by in the Seneca Creek Backcountry as well as the trails located in Smoke Hole Canyon. Other activities include kayaking, paddle boarding, mountain biking, hunting, picnicking and wildlife viewing.
