Joshua Tree National Park Overview

Joshua Tree National Park is located in Southern California and includes over 1,235 square miles of rugged rock formations and desert landscapes. In addition to the twisted Joshua tree, there are also a variety of other plants and animals that make their homes in two distinct desert ecosystems.

Popular outdoor recreation includes camping, hiking, rock climbing, backpacking, biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing.

Joshua Tree National Park Camping

The park has 9 established campgrounds. Backcountry/primitive camping is also available (with a permit) for those who wish to backpack.  Reservations are accepted at Black Rock Campground, Cottonwood Campground, Indian Cove Campground and Jumbo Rocks.  Belle Campground, Hidden Valley Campground, White Tank Campground and Ryan Campground are first-come, first served. Group camping is also available at Cottonwood, Indian Cove and Sheep Pass. Equestrian camping is available at Black Rock and Ryan Campgrounds.
