Mammoth Cave National Park

Mammoth Cave National Park Kentucky

Mammoth Cave National Park Overview

Mammoth Cave National Park is located in south-central Kentucky near Brownsville and is best known for its extensive cave system.

The park protects nearly 53,000 acres of forested hills, deep river valleys, limestone formations, and one of the world’s most extraordinary underground landscapes. Mammoth Cave is the longest known cave system in the world, with more than 426 miles of surveyed passages. The park is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an International Biosphere Reserve.

Above ground the Green River flows also through the center of the park, while the surrounding landscape features hardwood forests, bluffs, sinkholes, springs, and rolling hills.

Mammoth Cave National Park – Camping

Mammoth Cave main campground includes 109 sites and is located 1/4 mile from the visitor center. Four group sites are also available. Houchins Ferry (12 tent only, first-come, first-serve campsites) and Maple Springs Group campground (7 group sites, including 4 with equestrian facilities) are also available.
