Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest Overview

Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest stretches across the western slopes of the Cascade Range in northern Washington. The forest extends from the Canadian border south toward Mount Rainier National Park and covers a remarkable range of landscapes. Visitors will find rugged mountain peaks, alpine meadows, old-growth forests, rushing rivers, waterfalls, and glacier-covered terrain.

The forest is known for its dramatic scenery and easy access from the Seattle metropolitan area. Popular destinations include the Mount Baker area, the Mountain Loop Highway, Snoqualmie Pass, and the Skykomish River corridor. Several scenic drives provide access to trailheads, campgrounds, viewpoints, and other recreation areas.

Campgrounds range from small, rustic sites surrounded by dense forest to larger facilities near lakes, rivers, and major recreation destinations.

Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest – Area Recreation & Activities

The forest offers year-round recreation. Hiking is particularly popular, with trails ranging from short walks to challenging backcountry routes.

Other popular activities include camping, fishing, boating, kayaking, swimming, wildlife viewing, horseback riding, mountain biking, hunting and scenic driving. In winter, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and downhill skiing are popular in designated areas.
