New Hogan Lake California

New Hogan Lake Overview

The reservoir covers about 4,333 acres of water and approximately 50 miles of shoreline. The surrounding recreation area includes roughly 6,342 acres of land with oak- and brush-covered foothills, providing a mixture of developed recreation facilities and natural areas.

Located about 30 miles east of Stockton, the lake is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is a popular destination for camping, boating, fishing, hiking, picnicking, and other outdoor activities.

The recreation area has several camping options, including developed campgrounds and boat-in camping.

New Hogan Lake – Area Recreation & Activities

Water recreation is a major draw at New Hogan Lake. Boating, water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, and other watersports are popular during the warmer months. Several boat-launch facilities provide access to the reservoir, although launch locations and operating conditions can change.

Fishing is available year-round, subject to California regulations. The lake supports striped bass, black bass, catfish, bluegill, and crappie. The surrounding recreation area also provides opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, and hunting during authorized seasons.

The foothills around the lake provide habitat for mule deer, wild turkeys, coyotes, gray foxes, bobcats, raptors, waterfowl, and other wildlife. Bald eagles also use the area, particularly during winter. The south side of the lake includes a designated wildlife-viewing area.
