Prescott National Forest Arizona
Prescott National Forest Overview
Prescott National Forest covers more than 1.2 million acres of mountains, forests, grasslands, lakes, and rugged desert landscapes in central Arizona. The forest surrounds the communities of Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley and Mayer. It also extends south toward the Verde River and the Mogollon Rim. Its elevation varies considerably, creating a diverse landscape that ranges from high-elevation ponderosa pine forests to lower, warmer desert country.
Prescott National Forest – Recreation & Activities
The forest is best known for its extensive stands of ponderosa pine around Prescott and the Bradshaw Mountains. Granite formations, wooded valleys, open meadows, and mountain streams add variety to the scenery. Several lakes and reservoirs provide opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming, and other water-based activities, making the forest a popular destination throughout much of the year.
Mountain biking, horseback riding, wildlife viewing, and scenic driving are also popular. The forest’s varied terrain makes it especially attractive for off-highway vehicle enthusiasts, with designated routes providing access to remote areas and mountain scenery.
