Redwood National and State Parks California

Redwood National and State Parks Overview

Redwood National and State Parks preserves enormous old-growth coast redwoods, open prairies, oak woodlands, rivers, and rugged Pacific coastline. It is located along the northern California coast near Crescent City and Orick. The parks cover nearly 139,000 acres and are jointly managed by the National Park Service and California State Parks.

The park system includes Redwood National Park, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. Together, these parks protect some of the finest remaining stands of coast redwoods, including trees that rank among the tallest on Earth. The area was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980.

Redwood National and State Parks offer four developed campgrounds, each managed by California State Parks. These campgrounds provide essential amenities, making them a great option for tent and RV campers. However, due to their historic design, some campsites have size restrictions for larger RVs and trailers.
