Yellowstone National Park Overview

Yellowstone National Park includes almost 3,500 square miles of spectacular wilderness area and features many unique hydrothermal and geologic wonders. The park is mostly located in Wyoming, but also has ares in Montana and Idaho. It actually sites on top of an ancient volcanic caldera which is the source of hot springs, mud pots and famous gushing geysers. It is also home to spectacular canyons, scenic rivers, lush forests and a variety of wildlife. Visitors can expect to see bears, bison, elk, antelope, wolves, fox and many other forest creatures.

Yellowstone National Park Camping

Developed campgrounds include Bridge Bay, Grant Village, Lewis Lake, Madison, Mammoth, Norris, Pebble Creek, Slough Creek, Tower Fall, Canyon and Indian Creek. There are also several back country areas that offer hike-to campsites for backpackers. Bridge Bay, Grant Village, Madison and Canyon take reservations. All other campgrounds are first-come, first-serve.

Yellowstone National Park – Area Recreation

Popular outdoor recreation includes hiking, backpacking, boating, fishing, kayaking, rafting, photography, picnicking and wildlife viewing. There are also a number of historic sites visitors can explore. In the winter visitors can go snowshoeing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing.
