Bear River Group Campground Eldorado National Forest California

Bear River Group Overview

Bear River Group Campground has 4 separate group campsites and is near (less than a mile) Lower Bear River Reservoir in El Dorado National Forest.  The drive to the water is about a mile.

All group campsites are walk-to tent sites ranging from about 100 to 200 feet from the parking area.

  • Kokanee (up to 50 people)
  • Junco (up to 25 people)
  • Chipmunk (up to 25 people)
  • Smokey (up to 25 people).

Each group site has tables, a group cooking area, fire rings/grills and bear boxes. The campground also has drinking water, vault toilets and trash collection. Bear River Lake Resort is also nearby (2 miles) and has a store, restaurant, boat launch, boat rentals, dump station and showers.

Other campgrounds in the area include Pardoes Point, South Shore and Sugar Pine Point. You might also like Middle Fork Cosumnes Campground.

Bear River Group – Area Recreation & Activities

Outdoor recreation in the area includes boating (no motors), fishing, canoeing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, swimming, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, picnicking and wildlife viewing. The Pardoe Trail is a short distance from the reservoir, which borders the Mokelumne Wilderness. The trail runs up the top of Squaw Ridge to an elevation of over 9,000 feet, providing excellent views of the surrounding area.
