Dekkas Rock Overview
Dekkas Rock is a large group campground that can accommodate up to 60 guests. This campsite is right next to Lake Shasta in the Cascade Mountain Range. It is also part of the Shasta Trinity National Forest. The campground can accommodate tents, trailers, and RVs. These vehicles can have a maximum length of 30ft. This campground has space for 18 vehicles. There is also an additional parking lot with 8 spaces for boat trailers and overflow use. You must contact the Shasta Recreation Company office at least 1 week prior to arrival to receive a code to access your campground. You must also bring your reservation combination number. Poison Oak is abundant in the area and forest. Bears frequent the area as well. All food must be kept in bear proof containers which are available at the site. There is no cell service. The campground is open year round.
Amenities at Dekkas Rock Campground include picnic tables, BBQ grills, as well as campfire rings and pits. In addition, the site has unpaved parking spurs, drinking water, vault toilets, and trash collection. There is plenty of shade as well for you and your pets. The closest RV dump station is at Lakehead Campground and RV Park (15mi west). If that isn’t available, the next closest options are Lakeshore Villa RV Park (15mi west) and Boulder Creek RV Resort (29mi south).
Dekkas Rock – Area & Recreation
Shasta Trinity is the largest national forest in California with tons of mountain lakes, rivers, and streams. There are also plenty of hikes and trails to enjoy. The Hirz Bay Trail is at the campground. It is 1 mile long for hikers only. The Hirz Bay public boat ramp is nearby and offers access for both motorized and non-motorized boats. Lake Shasta offers great fishing for trout, catfish, chinook salmon, crappie, bluegill, white sturgeon, brown bullhead, and bass. Water sports are also popular.
The Hirz Mountain Lookout provides great panoramic views of Mt. Shasta, Mt. Lassen, and the surrounding area. The Lake Shasta Caverns are also nearby. There are daily tours here as it is a privately owned facility.
It is about a 30 minute drive to the nearest towns of Lakehead and O’Brien. It is about a 45 minute drive to Redding.
Other campgrounds you might like are Peltier Bridge, Sycamore Grove, and Horse Camp Primitive.
