Hallsted Overview

Hallsted Campground has 20 spacious campsites in a forested area along the beautiful Feather River in Plumas National Forest.  There are 8 sites with electric hookups.

Campsites are within walking distance of the Feather River and can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs.  The sites have wide and long paved parking spurs (ranging in length from 30 to 54 feet). Campsites 4, 5, 9, 12, 14, 16, 17 and 19 have electric hookups. Each site also has a table, food storage locker, lantern post, fire ring and grill.

The campground is generally open mid May to mid September. Amenities include potable (drinking) water, flush toilets, showers and trash collection. Cell service is poor in the area. Firewood is also available to purchase from the friendly camp host.

A general store is available in Twain, less than a half-mile from the campground. Quincy is approximately 17 miles east, providing the nearest source of fuel.

Hallsted Campground – Area Recreation & Activities

Outdoor recreation in the area includes fishing, fly fishing, kayaking, swimming, mountain biking, hiking, picnicking and wildlife viewing.

The route on the nearby Feather River National Scenic Byway traverses a steeply carved river gorge that encapsulates the historic railroad system from Oroville to Quincy.  Impressive powerhouses built to provide hydroelectricity are also located in the scenic canyon.

Other campgrounds in the area include Gansner Bar, North Fork, Queen Lily. Spanish Creek Campground is also in the area.
