Nelson Point Overview

Nelson Point Campground is a large group campground in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. However, it is also available for single family camping. The Shasta Recreation Company decides on an as needed basis whether single family sites are available or not. For large groups, the campground is available by reservation only. However, for single families, sites are available on a first come first serve basis. It can accommodate up to 60-75 guests and 16 vehicles. Nelson Point allows for RV, trailer, as well as tent camping. The max vehicle length ranges from 16ft-30ft. Also, there is plenty of shade. The campground is also pet friendly. There is good cell service here too. Nelson Point is open from early May to the beginning of June on a first come first serve basis. Starting at the beginning of June until mid September, the campground is by group reservation only.

Amenities at Nelson Point Campground include picnic tables, fire rings, grills, bear boxes, as well as vault toilets. However there is no drinking water. Also, at Antlers Campground, there is a public boat ramp that is available for a $16 daily fee. The nearby lakeside resorts will have boat rentals and fuel as well. The closest dump station options are Mountain Gate RV Park (12.5mi south), Trail In RV Park and Campground (1mi north), and Lakeshore Villa RV Park (5mi north).

Nelson Point – Area & Recreation

This campground and area has many fun things to do. Nelson Point sits along the Sacramento Arm of Shasta Lake. There are tons of mountain lakes, streams, as well as rivers to enjoy. This allows for many activities including boating, water skiing, as well as many other water sports. Fishing is also very popular. Anglers can fish for trout, catfish, Chinook salmon, crappie, bluegill, white sturgeon, brown bullhead, and bass.

Manzanita and Evergreen trees are abundant in the area. Mount Shasta, the second-tallest mountain in the Cascade Range, looms in the distance. Also, Lake Shasta Caverns is a fun area to visit. It is on the McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake. Another name for this area is Grey Rocks. Daily tours are available.

Other campgrounds that you might like are Antlers, Gregory Creek, Shasta Lake RV Resort, Lakehead RV, Lakeshore, Hirz Bay, Dekkas Rock, as well as Moore Creek.
