Obsidian Overview
Obsidian campground has 14 campsites nestled among aspens and pines next to Molybdenite Creek in Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. It is also near the trout filled Little Walker River. All sites are first come first served.
The remote and secluded campground is accessed by well maintained dirt road (Little Waker River Road) that is about 3.5 miles from highway 395 near the Sonora Junction.
The seasonal campground is usually open late May to mid October. Amenities include vault toilets. Potable (drinking) water and trash services are not provided. Cell service is poor.
Campsites can accommodate tents and small trailers/RVs. Each site has a gravel parking spur, table, fire ring and grill. Most sites have good shade.
Obsidian Campground – Area Recreation & Activities
Outdoor recreation in the area includes fishing, hiking, mountain biking, hunting, stargazing and wildlife viewing.
You may also like Chris Flat campground (about 8 miles away off highway 395). Leavitt Meadows is also 12 miles away off Highway 108.
