Sheep Camp Primitive Overview

Sheep Camp Primitive campground has 4 (tent only) campsites right by Brandy Creek and is just south of Whiskeytown Lake in the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area.

Each site can have up to 6 guests and 2 vehicles. The max vehicle length is 15ft. Also, these hike-in sites area about 25ft from the parking area. Ponderosa pines and fir trees provide shade for the sites. This campground is also pet friendly. In addition, black bears frequent the area. All food and toiletry items must be in bear-resistent lockers or in a vehicle. There is some cell service here. This campground is open from early April until late October.

Amenities at this campground and sites include picnic tables, fire pits, BBQs, bear-proof food lockers, as well as lamp poles. Also, there is trash collection and a vault toilet that the campground shares. However, drinking water and electricity are not available. Also, Brandy Creek Beach is about 3 miles north of the campground and has BBQs. In addition, from Memorial Day through Labor Day, there are showers, a store with food, supplies, as well as lake rentals. The closest dump station options are Brandy Creek RV Campground (4mi northeast), Oak Bottom RV Campground (13mi north), and some Redding-area commercial RV dump stations (16mi east).

Sheep Camp Primitive – Area & Recreation

There are many things to do at this campground and the surrounding area. Some of the more popular activities include swimming, kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding, as well as water skiing. Also, there is hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, gold panning, as well as fishing. Nearby trails lead to a series of waterfalls or into old-growth forest high on Shasta Bally Mountain. Hunting is also available during hunting season. Brandy Creek Beach is also a great place to visit to take part in everything Whiskeytown Lake has to offer.

Other campgrounds you might like are Peltier Bridge Primitive, Dry Creek Group, Oak Bottom, as well as Brandy Creek.
