Burning Bear Overview

Burning Bear Campground has 13 campsites and is set in a beautiful valley (near Geneva Creek) and along Guanella Pass Road.

The campground is generally open mid May to mid December. Amenities include potable (drinking) water, vault toilets and trash collection (dumpsters). Cell service is not available in the area.

Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site has a gravel parking spur, table, fire ring and grill. Sites can accommodate up to 2 vehicles and 8 people. Parkings spurs range in length from 18 to 50 feet.

Burning Bear Campground – Area Recreation & Activities

Outdoor recreation in the area includes fishing, hiking, mountain biking, OHV trail riding, hunting, picnicking, stargazing and wildlife viewing.

Burning Bear Trail is across the road from the campground and offers some spectacular scenery along the trail. Mount Bierstadt (elevation 14,060 feet) is north on the Guanella Pass road – a Scenic and Historic Byway, and one of the most popular scenic drives on the Pike and San Isabel National Forest. The Guanella Pass road is a great place to watch for bighorn sheep, elk, deer, moose, marmot, pika, and bear.

Other campgrounds in the area include Geneva Park and Guanella Pass.
