Carmel (UT) Overview
Carmel Campground has 15 single-family campsites set in a beautiful canyon and along Sheep Creek in the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area (Ashley National Forest). All sites are first-come, first-served.
The high-desert campground is surrounded by pinyon, juniper, and sagebrush country and has sweeping views of the surrounding desert and forested ridges. Some sites have nice shade. Campsites can accommodate tents and smaller trailers/RVs. Each site also has a table, fire ring and grill. Hookups are not available.
The campground is generally open mid-May to mid September. Amenities include vault toilets and trash collection. The Sheep Creek boat launch is also nearby. Cell service is fair in the area.
Other nearby campgrounds include Willows and Manns.
Carmel Campground – Area Recreation & Activities
A short drive leads to Flaming Gorge Reservoir for boating, fishing, and swimming, while the nearby Flaming Gorge–Uintas Scenic Byway offers panoramic overlooks and access to hiking trails. Other activities include mountain biking, hiking, picnicking, stargazing and wildlife viewing.
