Ashley National Forest

Ashley National Forest Utah

Ashley National Forest Overview

Ashley National Forest spans more than 1.3 million acres across northeastern Utah and southwestern Wyoming. It offers a diverse landscape of rugged mountains, sweeping plateaus, alpine meadows, and high desert terrain. The forest is also home to the majestic Uinta Mountains, including Kings Peak—the highest point in Utah at 13,528 feet. Visitors will find hundreds of lakes and streams, ideal for fishing, boating, and paddling, along with extensive trails for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and OHV use.

The forest is rich in wildlife, with elk, mule deer, moose, and black bears among its many inhabitants. Scenic drives like the Flaming Gorge–Uintas National Scenic Byway showcase breathtaking vistas and geologic wonders. In winter, the forest offers opportunities for snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and other cold-weather recreation.

With over 40 developed campgrounds, as well as numerous dispersed camping options, Ashley National Forest provides settings that range from lakeside retreats to secluded backcountry escapes.
