Pound River (VA) Overview

Pound River Campground has 27 campsites and is located on an arm of the John W. Flannagan Reservoir in the Cumberland Mountains of southwest Virginia.

Campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVS. There are 22 sites with electric hookups.  Each site also has a parking spur (ranging in size from 18 to 40 feet), table, lantern pole, fire ring and grill. Five tent-only sites are also available (parking spur, table, lantern pole, fire ring and grill provided).

Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, hot-water showers, trash collection and a dump station. There’s also a boat ramp, trailer lot, picnic shelters, playground and horseshoe pits.  Cell Service is not available.

Pound River Campground – Area Recreation

Outdoor recreation in the area includes boating, kayaking, canoeing, paddle-boarding, fishing, biking, hiking, picnicking and wildlife viewing.

Breaks Interstate Park is nearby, offering lodging, dining, a museum, gift shop, rafting, canoeing, rock climbing and other outdoor activities.

Other campgrounds in the area include Cranesnest and Lower Twin.
