Coconino National Forest Recreation

Coconino National Forest Recreation Arizona

Coconino National Forest Recreation Overview

Coconino National Forest is one of Arizona’s most diverse and scenic public lands, covering nearly 1.9 million acres across northern Arizona. Stretching from the high-elevation ponderosa pine forests surrounding Flagstaff to the iconic red rock landscapes of Sedona and the rugged canyons of the Mogollon Rim, the forest offers an extraordinary variety of outdoor recreation opportunities. Visitors can explore volcanic landscapes, alpine lakes, desert canyons, scenic drives, and miles of trails all within a single national forest.

The forest is a year-round destination for hiking, mountain biking, fishing, wildlife viewing, boating, off-highway vehicle riding, horseback riding, hunting, swimming, and winter recreation. Popular attractions include Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona’s red rock country, the San Francisco Peaks area, Fossil Creek, Lake Mary, and West Clear Creek Wilderness.

Coconino National Forest offers approximately 25 developed campgrounds ranging from family campgrounds and group sites to cabins and horse camps. Campgrounds vary from heavily forested mountain settings to creekside sites in scenic canyon environments.
