Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest Overview

Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest is a vast 2.8-million-acre national forest located in west-central Montana. Stretching across the Continental Divide and encompassing rugged mountain ranges, pristine rivers, alpine lakes, grasslands, and wilderness areas, the forest offers some of the most diverse landscapes in the northern Rocky Mountains. The forest was named for the famous Lewis and Clark Expedition, which traveled through the region between 1804 and 1806. Today, it is a destination for hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing, hunting, horseback riding, boating, and camping.
