Ouachita Lake

Ouachita Lake Arkansas

Ouachita Lake Overview

Nestled in the scenic Ouachita Mountains of west-central Arkansas, Lake Ouachita is the largest lake entirely within the state and one of the cleanest in the region. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages the lake and its 600 miles of shoreline. It’s known for its crystal-clear waters, forested shoreline and over 200 islands.

Lake Ouachita – Recreation and Activities

Boating is one of the most popular activities, with plenty of open water for sailing, swimming, water skiing, kayaking, and fishing. Anglers are drawn to the lake for its healthy populations of largemouth bass, striped bass, crappie, and catfish.

The lake is also known for scuba diving, with submerged rock formations, clear visibility, and even sunken attractions to explore beneath the surface.

Surrounding the lake, the Ouachita National Forest also provides miles of hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding trails..

Camping

Camping around Lake Ouachita ranges from developed campgrounds to more primitive, secluded sites. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operates several well-maintained campgrounds featuring amenities such as picnic tables, fire rings, restrooms, and boat ramps. Popular campgrounds include those at Brady Mountain, Denby Point, and Crystal Springs.
