East Fork Overview
East Fork campground has 133 sites and is located along Rock Creek in the Inyo National Forest near Mammoth Lakes. There are 71 reservable campsites and the rest are first-come, first-serve. Many of the sites are under tall Aspen and Lodgepole pine trees. Some campsites are close to the creek (ranging from about 30 to 100 feet). Most of the sites along the creek have RV sized parking pads. Other sites, away from the creek, are small and private with parking about 60-70 feet from the camping area.
The campground is generally open mid May to early October. Amenities include potable (drinking) water, flush toilets, overflow parking, an RV water fill up station and trash collection (dumpsters). Camp roads are paved. Each campsite also has a gravel parking spur, table, food locker, fire ring and grate. Some sites have BBQ pedestals. One site (#15) has full hookups and is first-come, first-serve. Firewood is also available for sale from the camp hosts. Cell service is not available in the area.
The nearest dump station is about 6 miles down the road and across the street from French Camp. Dump fees are included if you have a campground reservation at East Fork campground or any of the campgrounds in Rock Creek Canyon area.
East Fork Campground (INYO) – Area Recreation & Activities
Rock Creek is in a glacial cirque (basin) and drops 6,000 feet and 20 miles to the Owens River. Â The area is famous for its excellent rainbow trout fishing in the creek. There’s also an abundance of wildlife including black bear, mountain lions, deer and many species of birds. Other outdoor recreation includes backpacking, hiking and picnicking.
Other campgrounds in the area include Big Meadow, Iris Meadow, Palisade, Pine Grove, Upper Pine Grove and Rock Creek Lake. Rock Creek Lakes Resort is also nearby.

East Fork campsites are $29 per night. You can click on the “Make A Reservation” button to check availability, pricing and reserve. If sold out, you can try our Campsite Assist service. It will send you a text and email alert if a campsite becomes available on the dates you choose. Then you can try and reserve it.
Can you please tell me when east fork campground is going to close for this season. Looking at possible dates at the end of September 2022

Reservable campsites are available until the end of September at East Fork Campground. It usually stays open till mid October (all sites – first come, first serve starting Oct 1), but the closing date is up to the US Forest Service. You could try giving the USFS a call to see if they have a closing date: (760) 935-4339
Under campsite types, ADA is listed. How can we tell which spots are ADA at this campground?

I know they are required to have at least a few ADA campsites at East Fork, but I wasn’t able to find out which ones they were. I checked with the US Forest Service and Rec.gov, but no luck. I’ll keep checking and post here if I find out.

The East Fork campsites closest to Rock Creek are 58, 59, 102, 104, 107, 108, 110, 111, 112, 114, 116, 118 and 121. The distance to the creek ranges from about 25 to 100 feet.
Hi there. I’m curious which sites have the most shade and how hot it gets in July/Aug. Thank you!

East Fork Campground has several campsites that have some decent shade. These are the ones with big trees around the site like 50-63, 67, 77, 79, 81, 83, 97,98, 102-104, 110-112, 116, 118 and 123. There are some others too but these probably have the most shade. In July/August the temps are generally around high 80s during the day (but occasionally can get low 90s) and mid 50s at night.
In the previous message you mentions site 97. I have stayed here previously and looking to reserve again this summer. It is not showing on the https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232396 page. Is the southern loop closed for the year? Thank you.

There are 71 of the 133 campsites available to reserve (on Rec.gov). The rest are first-come, first-serve and not listed. I’m guessing #97 is a first-come, first-serve site and that’s why it is not listed/shown on Rec.gov.
check in time says 2pm but how long after could you arrive past check in time?

Reserved Sites at East Fork campground will be held until check out time (NOON) the day following your arrival date. Sites must be occupied by the checkout time of that following day to hold a reservation or the site will be forfeited and released to other guests.
