Howell Station Overview

Howell Station Campground has 143 campsites (with electric hookups) and is on the north side of the Des Moines River just below Lake Red Rock dam.

The 143 campsites are situated among a hardwood forest and are suitable for tents, trailers and RVs. Each site has electric hookups, a parking spur, table, fire ring and grill.

The seasonal campground is usually open mid April to mid October. Amenities include potable (drinking) water, flush and vault toilets, showers, trash collection (dumpsters) and two RV dump stations. There is also a boat ramp, boat trailer lot, playground, ranger station and visitor center.

Outdoor recreation in the area includes boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, swimming, water sports, hiking, biking, picnicking and wildlife viewing.

Other campgrounds in the area include Elk Rock State Park, Roberts Creek Park, Wallashuck, North Overlook and Ivans.
