Bates State Park Overview
Bates State Park campground has 34 primitive campsites located near Bates Pond, Bridge Creek, Clear Creek and the Middle Fork John Day River. The park was once the site of a thriving lumber mill and town.
The campground is open year round. There are 28 primitive sites for tents, trailers and RVs, as well as 6 hiker/biker sites. Amenities include potable (drinking) water, vault toilets and trash dumpsters. Cell service is poor in the area.
Area Recreation & Activities
Outdoor recreation in the area includes hiking, biking, fishing, picnicking, hunting and wildlife viewing.
Other campgrounds in the area include Deerhorn, Middle Fork, Yellow Pine, Wetmore and Dixie. You might also like the Unity Lake State Recreation Site campground.
