Breitenbush Campground Willamette National Forest Oregon

As of June 4th, 2026, the water spigots at this facility are not working. Please be sure to bring your own water.

Breitenbush Overview

Breitenbush campground has 28 campsites in a forested area next to the Breitenbush River and Short Creek. There are 7 double-family sites (up to 12 people), and the other 21 are single-family (up to 8 people). Most campsites offer sweeping views of the river.

The campground can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Parking spurs range in length from 20 to 50 feet. Each site also has a table, tent pads, fire ring and grill. A variety of plants and foliage separate the spacious campsites and provide privacy and shade from other sites. Most of the sites at Breitenbush are reservable.

The campground is seasonal and open from mid May until early/mid October. Amenities potable (drinking) water, vault toilets and trash receptacles. Cell service is not available. Some close by RV dump stations include Diamond Hill RV Park (92mi southwest), Salem Campground & RV Park (58mi west), and McMinnville Wastewater Treatment (90mi northwest).

Breitenbush – Area & Recreation

The campground lies in the Willamette National Forest. It stretches for 110 miles along the western slopes of the Cascade Range. The landscape varies between high mountains, narrow canyons, and cascading streams. The Breitenbush River’s clean waters flow from snow melt in the Mount Jefferson Wilderness.

Some popular activities to do here and in the surrounding area include hiking, biking, and swimming. The Willamette National Forest has about 1,700 miles of trail. While many are in wilderness areas, a number of trails are low-elevation, easy-access trails for year-round hiking. Fishing is popular as well. Rainbow trout is the most common catch for anglers. In addition, Detroit Lake is about 30 minutes away. Detroit Lake provides a great opportunity for water recreation like boating, water skiing, and kayaking.

Other campgrounds that you might like are Cleator Bend, Scorpion Creek, Fox Creek Group, Humbug, Elk Lake, Cove Creek, Santiam Flats, as well as Hoover.
