Loon Lake Recreation Area – Outdoor Recreation & Activities

Water recreation is the main attraction at Loon Lake. The calm lake is ideal for boating, kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, swimming, and fishing. Anglers regularly catch rainbow trout, largemouth bass, and other warm-water fish. The sandy beach is especially popular with families during the summer months.

The surrounding forests offer hiking, birdwatching, wildlife photography, and peaceful nature walks. A quarter-mile trail from the day-use area leads to a small waterfall through old-growth forest. Picnic areas along the shoreline provide relaxing places to enjoy lunch while taking in views of the lake. Horseshoe pits and open areas for games add even more recreation for families.

The nearby Oregon Coast also expands your recreation options. Visitors can explore expansive beaches, hike coastal trails, go crabbing, enjoy tidepooling, paddle nearby rivers, or ride OHVs in the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area.

Other parks and campgrounds in the area include Umpqua Lighthouse State Park and William M. Tugman State Park. Horsfall Beach campground, Horsfall campground and Horsfall Sand Camping are also about an hour away (along the coast).
