Lake San Antonio Recreation Area

Lake San Antonio Recreation Area California

Lake San Antonio Recreation Area Overview

Lake San Antonio Recreation Area Overview

Lake San Antonio Recreation Area features the 350,000 acre lake that has about 60 miles of shoreline. There are about 500 campsites in campground located on the south and north shore of the lake. The facility and campgrounds are operated by Monterey County Parks and is about 22 miles north of Paso Robles and 7 miles from Lake Nacimiento.

Lake San Antonio South Shore Camping

Lynch Campground (105 campsites) in a canyon next to the marina. There are 54 of the sites with water & electric hookups. Campsites 400-408 are reservable and the rest are first-come, first-served. The South Shore also has 7 cabins at the Lynch area.

Redonda Vista Campground has more than 260 campsites with 86 having full hookups. Sits A1-A15 are reservable and the rest are first-come first-served.

Harris Creek Campground has 91 campsites for RVs, trailers, and tents close to the lake. Campsites 600-625 are reservable and have water & electric hookups.

Lake San Antonio North Shore Camping

Lake San Antonio North Shore Campground has 18 campsites with full hookups, 73 with water & electric hookups and other standard (no hookup) sites next to the lake.

Five equestrian campsites are available at the North Shore’s Los Robles Equestrian Center. Campsites have water, tables and fire rings. There’s also a riding ring, corrals/stalls, manure bin, BBQ and horse rinse.

Camping Amenities

Campground amenities include potable (drinking) water, vault & flush toilets, trash collection and dump stations at each campground.  Some campgrounds also have showers. The South Shore area has two boat ramps (Harris Creek and Lynch). The North Shore has one boat launch/ramp. Boat trailer lots are available at each area. The South Shore (Lynch area) also has a store, gas station, laundry and restaurant/cafe but it doesn’t look like any have been open for years. In fact the restaurant/cafe looks haunted.  The South Shore has a playground, horse shoes and an amphitheater (at Redonda Vista). There are also picnic / day use areas and miles of hiking/biking trails in both areas.  Cell service is poor in at South Shore and just a little better at North Shore.

Campsites have tables, fire ring and grills. Camp roads and parking spurs are paved but are getting a bit rough around the edges (needs repaving).

Outdoor Recreation & Activities

Outdoor recreation includes boating, fishing, water sports, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking and picnicking. Wildlife viewing is also good in the area with opportunities to see deer, turkey, peacocks and a variety of birds.
