Whitefish Horse Camp Campground Deschutes National Forest Oregon

Whitefish Horse Camp Overview

Whitefish Horse Camp 007 Stalls

Whitefish Horse Camp is a real nice equestrian campground with 18 spacious sites located in a forested area about 1/4 mile from Crescent Lake.  Whitefish Creek also flows past the campground.

The campground is generally open mid May to mid October.  The large campsites can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. Each site has a gravel parking spur, table, fire ring, grill and stalls. Campsites 8, 13 and 18 have four horse stalls, while the others have two horse stalls.

Amenities include water (pump), vault toilets, trash collection and a manure bin. A camp host is also on site during the season. Cell service is poor in the area.

Whitefish Horse Camp – Area Recreation & Activities

The campground provides visitors with access to a variety of trails including Whitefish Creek and Metolius-Windigo. Lakes, lava flows, and forested areas provide the backdrop for many of these rides.

Whitefish Creek Trail is popular with both hikers and horseback riders. This trail can be accessed from the west end of Crescent Lake and follows Whitefish Creek up through lodgepole pines to a beautiful view of Diamond Peak at Diamond View Lake. From there, the trail descends along Trapper Creek through Engelmann spruce and white fir to the west end of Odell Lake.

Equestrians may want to traverse at least a portion of the spectacular Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), one of America’s premier National Scenic Trails. This trail showcases some of North America’s most fantastic scenery, winding its way its way from Mexico to Canada through California, Oregon and Washington. Portions of the trail traverse Diamond Peak at timberline. Wilderness passes are required for this trail.

Crescent Lake also offers great boating, kayaking and fishing.

Other campgrounds in the area include Windy Group Camp, Spring Camp, Contorta Flat, Contorta Point Group, Crescent Lake and Simax Group.
